Hi,
I think I was almost scammed by a guy. Is there cases of men scamming women? I met this guy on Myspace. It wasn't long before he asked to chat on yahoo. Then he would send me e-mails. He told me he was from Daytona Beach, Florida, but was adopted by irish parents at the age of 2 and that he was raised in Dublin. He said his parents died two years ago and left him with lots of money. Then he contacted me and said he was in Russia getting gems to start a jewelry store. One weekend he said he was in Madrid getting more jewels. Then he said he returned to Russia so he could finish his work and then come home to the sates. He even called from there. We chatted for about 2 weeks. And then he said he would like to see me. So I told him when would be good for me. So he said on his way home from Russia he would come see me. Then, two days ago he told me he was robbed. He said 4 men with guns barged into his hotel room and stole everything. He even told me that he was stabbed when he didn't want to give them a diamond ring he had gotten me. He told me he wanted to come home soon, but needed help with the money. He even sent me info on where to wire money so he could get a plane ticket on Swiss Intl. Airlines. He constantly sent me romantic letters of how he loved me and wanted to start a family with m and that he would take care of me. I am not able to send money nor would I. But I just want to know if this was a scam or not. I sent him an e-mail telling him that if he was robbed he could go to the American Embassy there in Moscow and they could help him get home. He said he didn't like that idea. No way am I sending money, but I just want to know if I left a 'real' guy stranded and wounded.
Thanks,
Jody

This is the wire info: (he said it was of a travel agent)
Receivers Name: OKANLAWON WASIU ILORI
City: IZHEVSK
State: IZHEVSK
Country: Russia
Then he said he needed the mtcn and text question and answer and my info such as name, city, state, and zip code. He said the flight would cost $1035 from DWE to DAB on Swiss Intl Airlines. And that the flight was for this Wednesday.

His name is Rod Daniel Lane, 35 years old, and supposedly has traveled all over.
he has a MySpace Profile under Rod D
and his e-mail is roddlane@yahoo.com
he also has roddlane@live.com

Hello Jody,
I am sure that it is a scammer. Yes, there are cases when men try to scam women. And the story they tell is similar to yours. Such cases that I met before were Nigerian cases. They usually use very good photos (photos of actors or male models). The strange thing in this story is the name of the receiver. Though you are asked to send money to Russia the name is definitely not Russian. I have problems to define the nationality of the person with this name. Do you have his pictures? Have you seen him on msn?
But in any case , all this is scam!
Best regards,
Irina

Irina,
Yes I have attached his photos. Also he is on a MySpace page with the same photos. It started out as friends and then quickly he professed his love and that he wanted to marry me. All too good to be true. :) That was his first mistake with me. He told me his name was Rod Lane and that he was a US Citizen in Russia on business. And that the name for the receiver was a travel agent that he had been in contact with.
Thank you for your help!
Jody
